In the early 1960s, Athenian designer Nikos Vassos began studying how the architectural language of ancient Greece could inform modern furniture. Working from a studio near the Acropolis, he spent his mornings sketching the rhythm of colonnades, the softened geometry of archways, and the quiet symmetry found throughout classical structures.

His aim was to translate these enduring principles into functional pieces for contemporary living — forms defined not by ornament, but by balance, proportion, and clarity. The earliest prototypes featured fluted surfaces, grounded bases, and gently curved profiles that echoed the serenity of marble corridors and sunlit porticos.

From this exploration, the Athena Collection emerged: a sideboard, dining table, and desk unified by architectural restraint and sculptural harmony. Each piece carried the calm presence of ancient design, reinterpreted through a modern lens.

When Rove revisited Vassos's studies decades later, the collection was refined but remained true to its origins — timeless, structured, and quietly monumental.
