In the early 1980s, at the height of New York's creative renaissance, furniture designer Elliot Milo worked out of a SoHo loft once used as a photography studio. The neighborhood was transforming — part industrial grit, part emerging art scene — and Milo became fascinated by how spaces had to function fluidly for the people living in them. A living room by day was often a bedroom by night.

His goal was to design a sleeper sofa that didn't feel like a compromise: a piece that carried the clarity of modern New York design while transforming with the ease demanded by city life. The prototype featured a clean, architectural profile with generous cushions and a seamless pull-out motion engineered for small lofts and long nights.

Artists, writers, and musicians who visited his studio praised the design for its dual identity — a sofa with the quiet presence of gallery seating that converted effortlessly into a bed. For them, it reflected the rhythm of the city itself: work and rest blending without boundaries.

When Rove rediscovered Milo's early drawings decades later, the design was refined into the Milo Sleeper Sofa — a study in modern versatility. Its understated geometry, comfortable proportions, and intuitive functionality honor the creative spirit of 1980s New York while offering a contemporary ease suited for any home.
